Reward For Excellence: Irene Onwuka Shines At AIWRA Awards
The founder Queen Irene Onwuka Foundation, Queen Irene Onwuka has been excited with her recognition with award of excellence as the 2023 African Iconic Young Humanitarian at the just concluded African Iconic Women Recognition Awards (AIWRA) 2023.
She was one of the beautiful and elegant women rewarded for their selfless and humanitarian activities in touching the lives of less privileged members of the society.
The event in Abuja which held June 1st organised by Face of Democracy Nigeria (FDN) is equally designed to recognise outstanding women for their contributions in peace building and national development.
They were nominated and voted for in an online electioneering exercise which lasted for over a month.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award on behalf of her organisation, Queen Onwuka an ex-beauty queen expressed gratitude that the little she has done is being recognised.
"The Queen Irene Onwuka Foundation has impacted positively in the lives of children, and over the years we have embarked on a whole lot of activities for students, from scholarship, to school renovation, sending a child out there back to school, to one of our projects where we go out to distribute educational materials for pupils.
"Our QIOP Foundation holds Annual children’s Quiz competition where we reward children through a healthy quiz competition with the ability of tasting their knowledge pushing them to break barriers in education for a global exposure.
"In women empowerment, we have done a lot, even in child advocacy, care for pregnant women, and skills acquisition for women", she stated.
Her foundation, the Queen Irene Onwuka Peace Foundation (QIOF) had in recent years embarked on child advocacy engagements tagged National Children Peace Concert which she usually holds in the FCT to mark the May 27 Children's Day.
The Foundation, which is her humanitarian initiative seeks to use this outreach to preach the message of peaceful co-existence among Nigerians through children, as part of its ‘Peace Education Campaign’.
Among others honoured at the award include, Nigeria's former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, daughter of the President, Folashade Tinubu, Jowel Taylor, Sophie Ackuaku, MD/CEO of Felak Concepts Group, Dr. Aisha Adole Achimugu, former minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq, former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Gbemisola Saraki, popular online publisher, Linda Ikeji and more.
Foundation is already Partnership with Lagos State Government To Host Children's Quiz Competition, Scheduled to hold September 21, 2023.
