Football star sentenced to 6 years in prison for drug trafficking

Quincy Promes, a former Netherlands international, has been sentenced to six years in prison after smuggling over 1,350kg of cocaine.

The 32-year-old, who presently plays for Russian Premier League club Spartak Moscow, was charged last May with smuggling more than 1,350kg of cocaine worth £65 million.

However, two batches totaling 650 and 713 kilograms of cocaine were captured in the port of Antwerp at the end of January 2020.

And now, the former Ajax forward has been sentenced to a prison term of six years, according to Voetbal International.

The report added that there is a ‘good chance’ the former Sevilla star will appeal against the imposed sentence.

Promes did not attend the court hearing in Amsterdam.

He is said to have denied involvement in the smuggling of cocaine through the port of Antwerp.
