In a bid to tackle the challenge of escalating food prices, the Presidency has called upon Nigerians to adopt subsistence farming.
Speaking at a meeting with the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) in Abuja, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the importance of agricultural self-sufficiency.
He referenced historical initiatives like ‘Operation Feed the Nation’ introduced by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1976 and measures taken during the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari in 1984 to mitigate shortages of essential commodities.
Acknowledging current economic hardships, Onanuga affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural investments for affordability and availability of food items. He noted, “Despite global economic challenges affecting cost of living, our efforts in agriculture aim to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.”
On partnership with the media, Onanuga assured ACOE of a collaborative approach to uphold transparency and disseminate accurate information. In response, ACOE Chairman Mr. Martins Odiete underscored the significance of their alliance in ensuring reliable news delivery to the public.
As Nigerians anticipate positive outcomes from governmental efforts, Onanuga expressed optimism that tangible results would be evident within the coming year.
The meeting concluded on a note of mutual commitment to fostering effective communication channels between the Presidency and the media, crucial for informed public discourse amidst evolving global dynamics.
