BREAKING : Peter Obi backs nationwide protests
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in last year’s general election, has voiced his support for the upcoming nationwide protests against economic hardship.
Set to take place from August 1 to 15, the protests are being organised by young Nigerians who are frustrated with the rising cost of living and economic difficulties.
Following a meeting with Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Sunday, Obi emphasized the importance of conducting the protests legally and peacefully.
He urged security agencies to respect the rights of the protesters and handle the situation within the bounds of the law.
Obi stated, “Protest is a constitutional right in Nigeria. I urge the protesters to act lawfully and civilly, demonstrating that we are a nation governed by law. The economic situation is tough, and it’s crucial to listen to the grievances of the people.”
Addressing concerns about the potential sponsors of the protests, Obi remarked, “The true sponsors are the hunger and hopelessness felt by the youth. We must acknowledge and address these issues.”
He also advised security agencies to manage the situation without excessive force
