Real reason northerners dominate Tinubu’s security team – Matawalle
Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, stating that the President has not been unfair to the North.
Matawalle pointed out that key security positions have been filled by northerners, citing the President’s understanding of the security situation in the North, particularly the North-West.
Matawalle spoke in Sokoto on Tuesday during a visit to the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji at 8 Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army.
He was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa. The visit was on the instructions of the President, who directed them to proceed to Sokoto to review the operations.
Matawalle highlighted the President’s appointments, including himself, the Defence Minister, Badaru, from Jigawa State, the National Security Adviser from Adamawa State, and the Minister of State for Police Affairs from the North.
He stated that these appointments demonstrate the President’s understanding of the region’s security challenges.
Matawalle addressed the troops, encouraging them not to be distracted by recent incidents, including the killing of four soldiers and the burning of two armoured vehicles by bandits.
He assured them of the federal government’s support and announced a cash donation of N5m to be shared among wounded soldiers.
