The U.S. military carried out strikes in Yemen on Saturday, with President Donald Trump vowing to use “overwhelming lethal force” until Houthi-led assaults on shipping cease.
“Today, I have ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen. They have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones,” Trump stated on social media.
He criticized former President Joe Biden’s approach, claiming it had been ineffective.
“Joe Biden’s response was pathetically weak, so the unrestrained Houthis just kept going,” Trump wrote. “It has been over a year since a U.S.-flagged commercial ship safely sailed through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, or the Gulf of Aden.”
Trump emphasized the economic and human costs of the ongoing attacks, saying they have inflicted billions of dollars in damage while endangering innocent lives.
He issued a stern warning: “Your attacks must stop, starting today.”
A U.S. official confirmed the strikes to CBS News, adding that the strikes in Sana’a were only the beginning of the operation
